Farmers are being urged to make safety a priority after a spate of accidents, including two quad bike deaths within a week.
ACC data shows “a very significant spike” in particular accidents during summer, often linked to increased work with machinery and long days.
“Farmers will often say that health and safety is simply ‘common sense’,” Beef and Lamb New Zealand extension manager Mark Harris said.
“But simply relying on ‘common sense’ is not preventing the many accidents that occur on New Zealand sheep and beef farms every year.”
